Heat transfers are custom-cut designs printed or die-cut from specialty vinyl material, then applied to fabric using heat and pressure. The vinyl bonds to the fibers to become part of the garment — flexible, soft, and durable.
Unlike screen printing, heat transfers have no minimums and no color separations. Unlike DTF, they can feature premium finishes like reflective safety material, metallic gold or silver, glitter, and flock (a soft velvet-like texture) that give your designs a distinctive tactile quality.
Heat Transfer FAQs
A heat transfer is a custom-cut vinyl design applied to fabric with a heat press. Heat and pressure activate the adhesive backing, bonding the vinyl permanently to the garment. Heat transfers are ideal for apparel, bags, hats, and other textile products.
Heat transfers work on most fabrics — cotton, polyester, cotton-poly blends, nylon, canvas, and more. Each material has a recommended fabric compatibility list, so choose the variant that matches the garment you are decorating.
A commercial heat press is strongly recommended for reliable results. It delivers the even temperature and firm pressure needed for a lasting bond. Household irons can work in a pinch for simple transfers, but they rarely hold up long term.
Heat transfers are cut from colored vinyl sheets — great for simple logos, text, and specialty finishes like glitter, metallic, reflective, or flock. DTF decals are digitally printed on film with full-color artwork — great for photos, gradients, and designs with many colors. Use heat transfers when you want a premium tactile finish or a single bold color; use DTF when you need full-color photographic detail.
We offer matte, glossy, glitter, metallic (gold, silver, rose gold), reflective, flock (velvet-like), and fluorescent finishes. Many designs combine multiple finishes by layering different materials within a single press.
Properly applied and cared for, heat transfers stay flexible and vibrant through 50+ wash cycles. Premium vinyl materials can last the lifetime of the garment when washing instructions are followed.
Wait 24 hours after pressing before the first wash. Turn the garment inside-out, wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, and tumble dry low or hang dry. Skip bleach and fabric softener.
Heat transfers are available in a wide range of sizes — from small left-chest logos to full-front or full-back prints. Use the size selector to match the dimensions of your design and the garment area.
Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) give the cleanest cut lines and are strongly recommended. High-resolution PNGs at 300 DPI with transparency also work. For multi-color designs, keep each color on its own layer or path.
